What’s up Cavs fans. Believe it or not, I’m one of you. I currently live in Westlake, go to Cavs games when I have the scratch, and I read up on Infante’s site. Here’s the swindle: I grew up in the suburbs of New York. City of lights, big money and big fame. Yes, I also grew up a New York Knicks fan, rooting for Ewing, Mark Jackson, and the original man among boys Larry Johnson. I didn’t feel the other side of the flip flops were really explained well on this website, so Infante gave me a voice.
Now what’s this I hear about New York players and press doubting LeBron to the Knicks? Al Harrington? Man, you have a pretty little jump shot, but your ass wouldn’t have a shoe line without New York. You know it. You also know LeBron would force you out of that small forward position. Don’t let the door hit you in the headband on your way out of town.
Donnie Walsh? You a cat, blood. You came into town talking about your connections, your ability to structure the salary cap, your history building a winner. Now you go and backtrack, telling me that Joe Johnson is tight with D’Antoni? That is bait and switch. You have Nike, Worldwide Wes, and many of LeBron’s inner circle on your side. Don’t be a punk, get him in Manhattan. I don’t care if you have to take that slow old white freak Big Z with him on a fat contract. You were brought here for only one reason, cat. Stop frontin’.
So LeBron, you have a nice team in Cleveland right now. I give you that. You probably don’t have to shovel your own driveway like I do. Let me just talk to you about your legacy in the NBA. You want to be the best of all time, right? Well last year, New York was seventh in the NBA in possessions per game. Cleveland? Only 25th. Imagine your numbers in D’Antoni’s system. Your best chance to rewrite the record books, post those triple-doubles, and appear on Saturday Night Live anytime you want is only one place: Madison Square Garden.
I’ll hit you back later, everyone. Really, read the letters I’m typing. This isn’t over yet.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — LeBron James fans, get ready to make some room in your closet for No. 6 jerseys.
James told The Plain Dealer on Monday that he’s filed the paperwork with the NBA office to switch his jersey number from No. 23 to No. 6 next season. He had to make the decision this week, the deadline to make the request to the NBA is Wednesday.
James first brought up the idea in November, saying he wanted to give up No. 23 out of respect to his hero, Michael Jordan. At that time he said he was “50/50″ on switching to No. 6, his Olympic number and the day of the month his first son was born. That now seems to be 100 percent.
“I’ve done it,” James said. “I already sent it in. I’m going to be No. 6.”
The NBA does not have to fulfill the request, players who don’t change teams have to apply to change their number in March before the previous season. However, the wave of new jersey sales the switch promises to trigger would likely be too enticing for the league to turn down.
In 2006, Kobe Bryant requested his number to be changed from No. 8 to No. 24. The NBA approved the move and Bryant’s jerseys quickly shot to No. 1 in sales across the world. James has been in the top three in jersey sales in the U.S., China and Europe in recent years but hasn’t enjoyed the top spot for several years.
Player do not directly benefit from merchandise sales, however. It goes into a league-wide pool that is distributed to teams and then players based on seniority.
Jordan, of course, also pulled such a move. He switched to No. 45 for part of a season when he came out of retirement for the first time with the Chicago Bulls.
Other than playing for Team USA, the last time James did not wear No. 23 was during his freshman year of high school when he wore No. 32 because a senior was wearing 23.

Cavs put pieces in place for championship run.
If LeBron James leaves Cleveland this offseason, his mind must have been made up long before the ‘09-10 season started. For the better part of James’ career the Cavaliers were much too often a one-man show. LeBron did everything in Cleveland short of giving tours of the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
After acquiring Antawn Jamison at this year’s trading deadline, though, it has capped what was once thought an impossible task. The Cavs have actually put enough talent around James to win a title.
It’s what he called for. He needed the organization to prove its commitment to winning. They have, so now it’s simply a matter of whether the King wants to rule another kingdom. I’ve been to Cleveland, actually for the sole purpose of attending a Cavs game and it’s about as exciting a city asLeBron James & Michael Pietrus Hattiesburg, MS sans Brett Favre. But James has maintained, like any other NBA superstar, that he only cares about winning a title. Big city glitz is only secondary.
The Cavaliers’ ode to James began in earnest this offseason when they signed Shaquille O’Neal solely to guard Dwight Howard after him and the Magic bested Cleveland in last year’s conference finals. Couple O’Neal with Jamison and Mo Williams and James has three All-Stars in his supporting cast.
The Cavaliers are now the deepest team in the Eastern Conference. Heck the Browns even did their part this past season, booting wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the Jets after he ruffed up someone in James’ entourage.
Although LeBron James hasn’t fully committed to playing some USA Basketball this summer we would love to see him continue his support to the country. After all, playing on an international stage with the biggest names around you is what allows basketball to expand its borders. For us sneakerheads it also means more shoes. The U.S.A. squad has already redeemed themselves after winning the Olympic Gold, but they still need to avenge the loss in the 2006 FIBA World Championship. LBJ has a lot of nice kicks in Olympic/USA colorways and the one you see below is one of the rarest as it’s the first time they are posted online. Back in 2007, Nike released the Navy/White/Red Zoom Soldier to public.
