The Cavaliers are in need of a veteran big man in the wake of Ben Wallace’s leg injury, and Joe Smith appears to still be a possibility.
League sources indicated on Friday night that Smith’s agent and the Thunder were discussing a buyout.
Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks has made public comments against buying out Smith, who would have to be bought out by Sunday night in order to join the Cavaliers in time to be eligible for their playoff roster.
